Conventions!

This year, I decided to become nerdier.  I'd say over the past 4 years, I've gone from not wanting to be a nerd, to liking some nerdy things, to admitting that I am a nerd, to looking for ways to become more and more nerdy.  So when trying to find ways to be more nerdy, I'm looking towards conventions.  I've seen so many of my favourite Youtubers go to these Cons, and it just looks like a ton of fun.  You get to meet people who are into the same fandoms that you are, and get to meet a lot of new people, and find new fandoms to be apart of.

So it being way late, and having nothing better to do, I'm looking for cons to attend over the next year.  The main reason I'm picking this year is that I signed up to go on a study abroad program next fall, and I got placed on the waiting list, and the way things are looking, I'm not going to be able to go.  And that would have been the only semester that I would have been able to go.  So instead of going on the study abroad program, I thought that maybe I should just go to London this summer.  Somewhere I've always wanted to go.  But then I remembered that the olympics are this summer, and it would be way to crowded to go and really enjoy it, so I'll save my money for that next year.  That leaves just cons to look into, not that I'm complaining.  The three conventions that I am looking into at the moment are Emerald City Comic Con, Vid Con, and Leaky Con.

Emerald City comic con just looks really awesome, and Seattle is a city I've always wanted to go to.  It is on a school day, but it would be one school day (or two, but it's different classes) and it would be so worth it.  The price is really reasonable.  Its a comic con, and until I can go to San Diego, this one looks pretty awesome.  Not to mention who will be there:

  1. Adam Baldwin-Jayne Cobb from Firefly and Serenity
  2. Jon Bernthal- Shane Walsh from the Walking Dead
  3. TOM freakin’ FELTON
  4. Summer Glau-River Tam from Firefly and from Doll house i
  5. Laurie Holden- Andrea from the Walking dead
  6. Christopher Lloyd- Doctor Emmett Brown from Back to the Future
  7. Katee Sackhoff- Staruck from Battlestar Galactica (my current obsession)
  8. Wil Wheaton
  9. Tara Strong- the voice actor of Twilight Spark from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
The only problem i have with going to this is that I would probably be going by myself, which I wouldn't be completely opposed to, but my first time going to something this large, I would like to have at least one familiar face in the crowd.  And the other problem is airfare.  Why does it have to be so expensive. (I think it's time to get a job).

Vidcon would be another con I would totes def. would want to go to.  I've watched it online the past two years, and have just been jealous of everyone who has been there.  Youtube has been a huge part of my life for the past 4 years, it has definitely had a part in developing who I've become, and it would be so nice to be able to meet the people who have been a part of that, even if they didn't know.  All of my favourite youtubers would be there, and the programming looks pretty awesome, and they are even trying to go to disney land, where I also would really like to go. The price is also really reasonable, but the same problems I had with ECCC, is what I have here, but seeing as it is in the summer, I think it would be easier to find people to go with.

The last con I would want to go to is Leaky Con.  Before I go into my reasonings, I just want to get something off my chest.  Last year, during Leaky Con I was 17.  When registration first opened up, I emailed right away and ask if I needed a guardian to go with me.  They said yes, but it could be anyone over 18, which was fine with me because all of my friends were over 18, so it would work out.  But a couple of months later, when I decided to buy my ticket, they had changed the guardian rules to that my guardian would have had to be 21, which would not have worked out. So, now that I'm 18 I was really excited that I wouldn't need a guardian, and I decided to glance at the age restrictions this year, and 16 and 17 year olds only need a notarized note to be able to go.  Why the sudden change in rules? Why couldn't this have been the rules last year.  So that kind of threw me off.  But any way, Harry Potter has been apart of my life for more than half my life, maybe even two-thirds of my life, so I feel it would be really fitting to go to a Harry Potter Con.  I also feel that it would be fitting seeing as it is the first year without anything new coming out, e.g. books, movies. I've also really wanted to go to Chicago, so that works.  The same two problems I have with the others still persist, but this one is also really expensive.  It's $200 just for the con, and I would also really like to go to Lit Day which is another $75.  Why is it so expensive? That more then double the other cons, it's actually more than the other two cons combined.

All of this is just talking out loud.  I don't even know if I'll have the money to go to any of these, or if my parents will allow me (although I'll probably go anyway, despite what they have to say). I think I'm writing this blogpost more to see what is available at each con.  Believe me, there will be a spreadsheet and checklist made for each.
